The urgent search for effective Covid-19 vaccines
Online event
Tuesday 8 December, 5.30-6.30pm
As the NHS starts to roll out the Covid-19 vaccination programme, our own NCA experts will speak at a special Grand Rounds session on the work that’s led up to this pivotal moment.
Professor Andrew Ustianowski is the National Institute for Health Research’s Joint National Infection Specialty Lead as well as a Consultant in Infectious Diseases & Tropical Medicine and Principal Research Lead at North Manchester General Hospital. As Chief investigator on four Covid-19 vaccine/monoclonal antibody studies, National Clinical Lead for the NIHR Covid-19 Vaccine Research Programme, and Joint National Specialty Lead for Infection, NIHR, he’s had a leading role nationally in the fightback against Covid-19.
NCA R&I Director and Salford Royal Renal Consultant Professor Phil Kalra helped to lead the NCA’s first vaccine study, which saw more than 100 staff quickly mobilised to run the Novavax trial at Oldham Leisure Centre, recruiting nearly 500 volunteers from around the North West.
They will be joined by Senior Research Midwife Rachel Newport who has played a key role in delivering the study.
Andy, Phil and Rachel will give an insight into the background of the vaccine programme and how it has been delivered so quickly from a standing start in the one-hour virtual session on Tuesday 8 December at 5.30pm.
This is an event for NCA staff only – there is a link on the intranet or please email claire.mooney@srft.nhs.uk if you would like a link to join.
