Congratulations to Consultant Surgeon Professor Gordon Carlson who has been awarded a CBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours for his services to general and intestinal failure surgery.
Professor Carlson, who is also Honorary Professor of Surgery at The University of Manchester and of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Salford, is internationally recognised for his pioneering work in the management of abdominal sepsis and intestinal failure. With his colleagues, he runs the world-renowned Intestinal Failure Unit at Salford Royal, which treats patients with complex abdominal infection and intestinal fistulas from across the UK and the world.
Professor Carlson said he was ‘amazed’ and ‘delighted’ to have been honoured in this way. He added: “This award reflects not only my work but also the efforts of the colleagues I have had the privilege to work with, who always put the patient at the centre of everything they do.”
