Deborah crowned Researcher of the Year

Huge congratulations to Dr Deborah Antcliff, winner of the Researcher of the Year title at this year’s Northern Care Alliance Staff Awards.

She is  an advanced physiotherapy practitioner and has supported the launch of the multi-disciplinary Bury integrated pain service. Dr Antcliff has a specialism in chronic pain/fatigue and  is dedicated to improving the lives of patients with chronic pain/fatigue (such as chronic low back pain, chronic widespread pain, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue service syndrome/myalgic encephalomyelitis).

As part of this, she is leading a crucial research study to add clarity to the concept of activity pacing through developing an activity pacing framework as a comprehensive guide for healthcare professionals to standardised how pacing is instructed.

Highly commended were Salford Royal’s Neurology Research Team, headed by Judith Brooke, who lead some of the most exciting and promising Parkinson’s disease research that is going on globally.

It was great to see their work highlighted at the awards, along with that of the other shortlisted nominees, Research Partnerships Manager Natalie Garratt (corporate), Consultant Haematologist Dr Antonina Zhelyazkova (Oldham) and the PAT-POPS team (North Manchester).

Well done too to Doctor of the Year Dr Prakash Kamath, Paediatric Consultant at Oldham and to Mr Mohammed Absar and the breast surgery and radiology team at North Manchester who won the Team of the Year title – they’re also involved in research to benefit patients.
