Angeline Price

Doctoral Fellowship success for Advanced Clinical Practitioner

Congratulations to Advanced Clinical Practitioner in Ageing and Complex Medicine Angeline Price, who has been awarded an NIHR ICA Clinical Doctoral Research Fellowship to undertake a study into the impact of emergency laparotomy for older people living with frailty.

Her mixed methods study involves qualitative work with patients in the 12 months following emergency laparotomy, to understand patient experience after this type of surgery and how this changes over time.

She will also use National Emergency Laparotomy Audit (NELA) data to determine longer term outcomes for the  8000 patients living with frailty that undergo an emergency laparotomy each year in the UK. This will lead to further work to develop targeted post-operative interventions to reduce the risk of adverse outcomes for this group.

Angeline will also spend time working with consultant nurses, surgical advanced practitioners and community teams to develop her clinical expertise over the duration of the Fellowship, as well as becoming one of the first nurses in the country to undertake the Diploma in Geriatric Medicine examination.
