Dr Paul Chadwick

Meritorious Award for Paul

A Consultant Podiatrist has won a prestigious award in recognition of his work in the field of diabetes-related foot disease.

Dr Paul Chadwick, who has worked at Salford Royal for 15 years, was presented with the Meritorious Award by the College of Podiatry at a ceremony at the House of Lords. Only five of these awards are handed out across the UK each year.

Dr Chadwick said: “I was thrilled and genuinely surprised to receive the award.  While it is in recognition of the national work I have led on and contributed to, it is also a reflection of the excellent work and service provided by the podiatry team at Salford Royal, which was held up nationally as a beacon of good practice and a centre of excellence.”

Dr Chadwick, who is also chairman of improvement organisation Foot in Diabetes UK, is known for his commitment to support the training and development of the podiatry workforce and is the first diabetes-focused clinical podiatrist in the UK to complete a Doctorate of Philosophy.

He regularly lectures nationally and internationally on diabetic foot management and is the author of more than 35 publications on the subject.

Dr Chadwick added: “I enjoy many aspects of my job but particularly patient involvement, face to face contact and it still gives me great satisfaction to have the opportunity to improve a patient’s health.

“The team spirit and camaraderie in the department also makes it an enjoyable place to work and contributes significantly to the excellent work produced, something I would like to thank my colleagues for.

“The department is at the cutting edge of new research initiatives and has developed strong links with the University of Salford, which helps to provide even better outcomes for our patients.”
