Professor Nawar Bakerly

New Respiratory Strategic Clinical Lead

Professor Nawar Bakerly has been appointed as the new NCA Respiratory Strategic Clinical Lead.

This new role will provide overall strategic clinical leadership for the transformation of respiratory services and Prof Bakerly will act as the champion for transformation both within and outside the NCA, improving efficiency, maintaining quality standards, and positioning NCA’s respiratory services within Greater Manchester as a major provider of care across the system.

Dr Rafik Bedair, Chief Medical Officer for the NCA said: “This is a further step towards us strengthening our services, so they best serve our population and our people. Nawar has a track record in leadership and innovation that I think will be key to making NCA Respiratory Services the best they can be.”

This role will be supported by locality clinical leads and the strategy team to maintain the local focus on respiratory services, as well as driving the plans for working collaboratively and harnessing the combined expertise and resources of the four Care Organisations within the NCA.

Prof Bakerly is also active in research, with particular interest in the treatment of long Covid. He is the lead researcher for the respiratory collection within the NCA Research Collection.
