Professor Andy Vail

R+D Statistics Lead awarded Professorship

Salford Royal R+D Statistics Lead, Andy Vail, has been awarded a Professorship in Clinical Biostatistics by The University of Manchester.

Prof Vail is also Centre Lead for Biostatistics in the Institute of Population Health, an Associate Director of the NIHR Research Design Service North West and an Editor of the Cochrane Gynaecology and Fertility Group.

He followed his wife from Leeds to Salford Royal in 1999 and developed the statistics team within the R+D Support Unit.  Over the last 16 years, he has worked with many clinical and translational researchers on site to disseminate good statistical practice and research methods, as well as instigating and overseeing a programme of courses for Trust staff.

His most successful clinical collaborations have been within the fields of stroke, dermatology and rheumatology.  His statistical interests have always been motivated by issues arising in clinical collaborations. He has published more than 150 research articles in clinical, epidemiological and statistical journals.
