Professor Chris Griffiths has been awarded an OBE in the New Year’s Honours List for his outstanding contribution to dermatology.
Professor Griffiths is a Consultant Dermatologist at Salford Royal and Foundation Professor of Dermatology at The University of Manchester. He and his team have an international reputation for research into major skin diseases and run one of Europe’s leading dermatology clinical trial units. The team conducts clinical, problem-led research that is of direct relevance to patient care and treatment.
He is world-renowned for his expertise in psoriasis and is Director of the Medical Research Council stratified medicine consortium – psoriasis stratification to optimise relevant therapy – (PSORT) and Chief Investigator of the national pharmacovigilance register for psoriasis – British Association of Dermatologists Biologic Interventions Register (BADBIR). He also leads a large research programme on skin ageing and is the founder of the skincare company CG Skin.
Professor Griffiths leads the Manchester Biomedical Research Centre’s Dermatology Theme, where work is underway to develop a greater understanding of the causes of skin and wound disorders and using this knowledge to deliver improved treatments, diagnosis and care.
In 2015 he was presented with the Sir Archibald Gray Medal in recognition for his outstanding services to dermatology. Named after the British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) founder, the medal is the organisation’s ultimate accolade bestowed on significant UK dermatologists.
Prof Griffiths is also co-founder of the International Psoriasis Council and in 2009 he received the lifetime achievement award from the American Skin Association.
