Skin experts have been awarded chairs to mark the academic progress they are leading.
Richard Warren is an Honorary Consultant Dermatologist at Salford Royal and has been appointed Professor of Dermatology and Therapeutics at The University of Manchester.
His main area of interest is in the treatment of severe inflammatory skin disease, especially psoriasis.
He is a consultant in Salford Royal’s world renowned psoriasis clinic and has also established a combined clinic for patients with severe psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. He sits on a number of national committees, including the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence guideline group for psoriasis, and is psoriasis programme lead for the NIHR Manchester Biomedical Research Centre. He is regularly invited to speak at major dermatology congresses and publishes frequently in specialist medical journals.
Rachel Watson has been appointed Professor of Cutaneous Science at The University of Manchester. She works with the Dermatopharmacology Unit at Salford Royal on research into the mechanisms behind skin ageing as well as on programmes to aid the repair of damaged skin.
She is the academic director of the MSc in Skin Ageing and Aesthetic Medicine at the University, sits on the editorial boards of three scientific journals and is section editor of British Journal of Dermatology. Professor Watson is a member of the research committee of the British Association of Dermatologists and the Manchester Institute for Collaborative Research on Ageing (MICRA) steering committee, as well as biomarker platform lead for the dermatology theme at the NIHR Manchester Biomedical Research Centre.
