In collaboration with Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA), the Centre for Clinical and Care Research (CCR) will support a nurse, midwife, allied health professional or other registered health or care professional (excluding medicine and dentistry) to develop their skills and knowledge of some of the wider research processes.
The internship is specifically for someone who wishes to focus on food allergy and adverse reactions to food. The intern will receive bespoke mentorship and training, with the aim of developing their own research career.
This internship will support an NCA employee to have protected time to contribute to food allergy research, develop their experiences of wider research processes, and develop their skills and confidence to apply for personal research awards. The CCR aims to build a research culture within the NCA non-medical workforce so that future independent researchers are developed and supported to gain funding and progress clinical academic careers.
What will it involve?
The internship will last for up to six months for up to a day a week. Internship activity will differ depending on individual needs but will comprise of some of the following:
- Assisting with a scoping review into food allergy and adverse reactions to food
- Collecting primary data within Salford Royal Inpatients to build on an existing dataset
- Data entry (eg Excel spreadsheets)
- Analysing data
- Reviewing research protocols that focus on best practice for food challenges
- Bespoke mentorship and relevant training (to be tailored and agreed with the individual)
- Develop a plan for personal research career development/funding
Who is the scheme for?
Individuals who are currently working in the NCA as a nurse, midwife, allied health professional, research delivery team member or other non-medical profession and would like an opportunity to develop their research skills and experience within food allergy and adverse reactions.
What support is available?
This internship will support an individual to have protected time to engage in research by providing backfill funding for the research time taken. The funding is available for a maximum of one day a week for up to six months. The successful applicant will receive bespoke mentorship and training and will also be eligible for up to £1,000 for individual training needs.
