The Research & Innovation Department is keen to work with colleagues across Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust to support the development, funding and delivery of research. One of the ways in which we do this is through sponsorship.
We encourage any colleagues who have ideas for research projects to contact the Research Management Team in the first instance. We can discuss your ideas, provide advice and signpost you to other sources of support if needed.
All health and social care research should have a sponsor. This includes all research that involve NHS patients, their tissue or information. The UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research and the UK clinical trial regulations specify what the responsibilities of the sponsor are and outline some of the activities they should perform. In summary the sponsor is responsible for “securing the arrangements to initiate, manage and at times finance a study”.
- We work to the following principles:
- We do not sponsor Clinical Trials of Investigation Medicinal Products (CTIMPs).
- We do sponsor studies where the Chief Investigator is substantively employed by NCA.
- We will prioritise the following studies: awarded NIHR grants where the funding is held by NCA (these include RfPB, HTA, HS&DR, PHR and Programme Grants), feasibility and pilot studies intended to lead to NIHR funding applications, studies that can only be carried out across NCA such as Electronic Patient Record (EPR)/large data studies, studies needing our unique patient population, & studies involving the Information Commissioners Office (ICO).
For information and support with grant applications please see our dedicated R&I Grants page.
For more information on how we decide which studies we can sponsor or to request NCA NHS sponsorship for your study, please contact RDResearch@nca.uk and one of the sponsorship team will respond as soon as possible.
